Lake Sinclair made its home in Middle Georgia in 1953 when the Georgia Power Company finally finished construction of the Sinclair Damn.  The power company began construction of the dam all the way back in 1929 to harness the power of the Oconee River but the company had to suspend work shortly thereafter when the Great Depression took hold in 1930.  Construction resumed in 1945 and, once finished, the dam created a 15,000+ acre reservoir between the historic towns of Milledgeville and Eatonton with over 415 miles of shoreline.
